  2. Flower Objectives • Identify the parts of a flower

  3. If you look carefully at a flower, you will see that it is made up of many different parts. Each part has an important job to do.

  4. Flowers have 4 different parts • Sepals • Petals • Pistil • Stamens

  5. Pedicel • The flower stem

  6. Receptacle • The place on the stem where floral organs attach and originate.

  7. Sepals • Usually green; leaflike structures that protect the flower, as it forms and emerges.

  8. Sometimes sepals are colorful

  9. Calyx • The group of sepals on a flower

  10. Petals • Located just inside the sepals • Leaf-like and often very colorful • Attract pollinators

  11. Corolla • The collection of petals on a flower

  12. Perianth • The sepals and the petals of a flower. (Not the reproductive parts.)

  13. Review • What are the petals? • What are the sepals? • What is the corolla? • What is the calyx?
