  2. I PERIOD the 20-s – 30-s: • education of the professional filmmakers • film clubs and film studios for young amateurs • practical approach in film education – film shooting and editing + films analyzing

  3. II PERIOD • 1967 – Film Education Council for School and High School • in 32 schools in Kievwere opened elective classes «Grounds of cinematography» • training course for teachers “Film Education Methods for Secondary School”

  4. II PERIOD • 70-s – system of film clubs, film- and photostudios for children and youth; • elective film classes • 1973– film and animation center for children and teenagers ‘Vesnyanka’ • Klovsky film lyceum (Kiev); • Broadcasting companies in Poltava, Znamenka, and Kiev (‘Tonis’) – film educational programs, children and teenagers as TV anchormen.

  5. II PERIOD • 1989– Association of Film Educators, since 2009 – Association for Film Education and MediaPedagogics • 1991– special subject “Film critic. Film educator” at the film art department of the Kiev State Dramatic Art Institute named after I.Karpenko-Kary

III PERIOD • Association for Film Education and Media Pedagogics(1989) – President – Professor Oksana Mussienko. • «Lvov media school» - Institute of Mass Media Ecology under the Lvov National University, leaders – Professor Boris Potyatinnik, Natalya Gabor. • «Kiev media schools» - media didacticsschool– Professor Anna Onkovich, Institute of High Education under The National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences; media psychology – Professor Lubov Naydenova, Institute of social and political psychology under The National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences

MAIN AREAS OF MEDIA EDUCATION IN UKRAINE • media education of future professionals: filmmakers, actors, media producers, journalists, and others. • media education in the institutions of post-school training and out-of-school centers, Houses of culture, clubs, art societies, studios, etc. • media education as the part of educational process in school – integrated courses, elective classes, required subjects.

ALL-UKRAINIAN EXPERIMENT • Duration– 2011 – 2016 • Aim – development of the effective media educational model for all-round training of children and youth for their secure and close interaction with modern media, forming their media competence. • About 90 secondary schools in 8 regions, in Kiev and Crimea.

  11. AIMS OF MEDIA EDUCATION • forming of world outlook, aesthetic and moral values; • development of constructive thinking and creative activity; • information security.

  12. TASKS OF MEDIA EDUCATION • forming the sensitivity to arts; • teaching the ability to understand and analyze the media texts; • realization of artistic potential; • development of practical skills in the sphere of media; • making the conditions for self-education

STEPS OF MEDIA EDUCATION IMPLEMENTATION • teaching the history, structure, techniques and language of media; • development of media texts perception; ability to read and critically interpret them; • activization of viewer’s imagination, memory, thinking; • creation of practical skills in the sphere of media.

PERSPECTS FOR FURTHER DEVELOPMENT • Opening the All-Ukrainian center for media education; • Approval of the new pedagogical profession Standard – media pedagogue (media educator); • Education of the future media pedagogues; • Training the school teachers; • Working out the various teaching courses for different educational degrees; • Publication of a journal on media education; • Development of All-Ukrainian web-site on media education; • Integration of media education into the curricula of schools and high schools
