  12. The passive: use • To focus the main topic of the sentence The CEO bought the company in 2006. The company was bought by the CEO in 2006. • If the person who does the verb is unknown or unimportant The company was founded in 2006. (interested in when not who) • The doer of the verb is obvious or “people in general“ Kitchen staff are not allowed to wear jewellery. (obviously by their employer or the law)
