  4. Dealing with Distractions Mom is Distracted by the Phone • Ask mom to turn the phone off • Transportation • Contacting the doctor regarding prescription

  5. Dealing with Distractions Mom is Distracted by Closely Scheduled Appointments • Offer to reschedule appointment • Let mom know how long the appointment will be and adhere appropriately • Provide overview of the appointment so mom knows what to expect • Put a reminder in the system to alert staff to remind mom of the length of the appointment to avoid future scheduling conflicts.

  6. Dealing with Distraction Mom is Distracted with Arranging Transportation • Making arrangements prior to counseling • Keep local bus/public transportation schedules in the clinic and let mom know when the next times will be • Set a time frame and try to stick with it
