Attendance Reports 2012/2013 VS. 2013/2014 Cascade High School • 2012/2013: 91,133 total AU (unexcused absences for combined periods school wide) • 2013/2014: 86,488 total AU (unexcused absences for combined periods school wide) • Decreased the amount of total period AU’s by over 4,600 Everett High School • 2012/2013: 113,399total AU (unexcused absences for combined periods school wide) • 2013/2014: 99,146total AU (unexcused absences for combined periods school wide) • Decreased the amount of total period Au’s by over 14,000

Attendance Reports 2012/2013 VS. 2013/2014 Continued HM Jackson High School • 2012/2013: 57,805 total AU (unexcused absences for combined periods school wide) • 2013/2014: 61,735 total AU (unexcused absences for combined periods school wide) • Increased the amount of total period AU’s by over 3,900 Sequoia High School • 2012/2013: 33,863 total AU (unexcused absences for combined periods school wide) • 2013/2014: 49,876 total AU (unexcused absences for combined periods school wide) • Increased the amount of total period AU’s by over 16,000

High School Interventions used to help improve attendance • Round-up meetings –Running a report that shows who had Unexcused Absences on the day before, then a decision is made on what grade level will be a focus for this roundup meeting. That grade level receives a pass telling them to come to the meeting room during SSR at which time they meet with their admin ( per alpha) to explain whether or not the absence was excused or not. Any notes get turned in to attendance, teacher errors – student gets handed a slip to take to whichever teacher marked them absent incorrectly, and then attendance gets notified to make the corrections if any. All skips – get a discipline assigned at that time. • Weekly reports are run and given to all ADMIN and Counselors. These reports reflect the students that have been Unexcused over the last 5,10,15 and 20 days. These reports are reviewed and discussed each week at the weekly counselors meeting. • Lettersare sent home for every student with 2 or more Unexcused Absences and 5 or more unexcused absence which invites student/parent to a conference. • Daily wake-up calls through Connect ED with student/parent consent. • Home visits made with various Admin, SRO, Counselors, Success Coordinators.

Home Visits IDEAS • Each High School will receive a report of students who already have 5 or more unexcused absences throughout all periods. • Names have been narrowed down to focus on students who are not currently on BECCA and who are 9th & 10thgraders. • Please choose 5 students from this list who you think you could make a point to make a home visit to in the next few weeks. • We would be reaching these students on a personal level before they would hit a BECCA informational conference. • Take into consideration students who you know that may have a family history of unexcused absences, or dropouts. • Keep me posted on the follow through with these students after the attempted home visit.

  7. Attendance success story • Karina- This student had been inactive from our School District since December of 2012 for 20 days of non-attendance. A BECCA Petition was filed on her March of 2013. • The student grew up in the Ukrainian and her parents are having a hard time understanding the importance of education here in the United States. • Since the petition has been filed the student has continued to go to court numerous times for not enrolling in a schooling program. • After many court interventions & parent meetings Karina has passed the 1st intake at Sequoia this year! Her sister (who was being homeschooled) also passed the 1st intake. • We are very hopeful that Sequoia will provide her with the extra support she needs to be successful with Everett Public Schools.
