  1. 8 May ,1968 Dear family, I am saddened today to inform you all that after three decades in the Vietnam War my nursing days are over. I decided it was time to stop pretending to be someone I am not. I came out to my officer that I am a Lesbian. He yelled and screamed say that I would have been fine if I just would have followed the don’t ask don’t tell policy. I told him it is time for the world to understand that we are not all alike. I am fine with who I am and proud of myself for taking that life changing step. I will be receiving my discharge papers tomorrow and am happy to say I will be seeing you soon.
