  3. Coordinating Team • Organizes comprehensive parish ministry • Plans overall strategies and programs • Develops a leadership system • Identifies the resources of the community • Connects parish ministries

  4. Characteristics of EffectiveCouncil Ministry • Acknowledges, articulates, and experiences a sense of ownership of common mission. • Achieves a sense of unity accompanied by a desire to work together for a common goal. • Decides to identify, value and bring together the various gifts.

  5. Parish Drivers • To cultivate discipleship as a basic mode of Catholic response to the Word of God— • How we help our people see themselves fundamentally as disciples, called and sent • To instill patterns of evangelization as part of the fabric of the parish itself • How we help Catholics respond to deeper levels of conversion, and reach out to others with a call to conversion (Fr. Worship • The Sunday Eucharist is a priority in the life of the parish. • Competent individuals are responsible for every aspect of liturgical celebrations. • Parishioners serve in many liturgical roles at liturgy, they are trained and effective. • Worship aids are contemporary. • Preaching is directly related to the scriptures and real life experience. • Sacraments are celebrated with attention to making them true expressions of parish life. • Liturgy of the Word with Children is celebrated. • Liturgical art and environment are marked by noble simplicity.

WORD • Catechetical leader and Youth Ministry has appropriate education, ability, and experience. • Catechists and YMinisters are well formed. • Adequate funds, staff and space are allocated. • Catechetical programming is planned and evaluated (children, adults, youth). • Assistance is given to parents the prime formers. • Models and methodologies lead to faith commitments. • Sacramental prep. for Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist, Marriage and Reconciliation are intergenerational and parish based.

Service • Focuses on needs of the human community • Accommodates persons with special needs • Programs that minister to the sick, the bereaved and the homebound. • An organized program to deal with current issues in light of the principles of Catholic Social Teaching • Formation efforts to integrate CST • Participation in local, and national elections and policy-making • Racial and ethnic harmony, peacemaking and non- violence, respect of life at all stages

Community Life • The parish recognizes itself as a Christian community. • Communication among parish leaders and with parishioners is adequate and consistent. • There is a good Spirit of working together. • Parish activities are inclusive. • Activities are in harmony with the parish plan. • There is an annual review of purpose, effectiveness and need for parish organization. • The prayer and activity are outwardly directed. • Collaborates with the larger church. • Is Ecumenical.

Stewardship • Parishioners are encouraged to use their giftedness • Formation opportunities are available for all in ministry • The resources of the parish are sufficient to accomplish its mission and pastoral plan • The parish is not overly dependent on fundraisers • Keeps up payments on debts • Facilities are appropriately maintained • Finance council members are persons with interest and experience in budgeting, facilities and fundraising efforts. • The parish regularly shares a portion of its income with the poor

Leadership • The pastor/parish life director, staff and pastoral council share responsibility for visioning, planning, empowering, and evaluating. • The pastoral concerns of the parish are assessed, evaluated, and responded to. • Decisions are made after a process of discernment, study, and discussion. • Ongoing training of parish leaders is provided for and informed by diocesan, national and universal church. • Parish leaders delegate and empower others to implement parish activities. • The pastor/parish life director regularly evaluates parish personnel.
