  1. Objective: Students will pose meaningful scientific questions in order to explain the scientific process. D.N.A • Ms. Nakamura wants to find out what kind of music makes his/her students get more school work done in class. She wants to test rap, country, and classical music. Please help Ms. Nakamura identify the following: • What is your teacher’s scientific question? • What is a possible hypothesis? • IV: • DV: • Control group: • Atleast one constant What type of music makes Ms. Nakamura’s students get more school work done in class If Ms. Nakamura plays classical music, then her students will be more productive because classical music helps activate the brain Type of music Students getting work done in class Students listening to NO music Amount of time listening to music

  3. 1. Listen to or read instructions carefully before attempting to do anything. 2. Wear safety goggles to protect your eyes from chemicals, heated materials, or things that might be able to shatter. 3. Notify your teacher if any spills, glass breakage or accidents occur. General Safety Rules

  4. After handling chemicals, always wash your hands with soap and water. Know the location of the fire extinguisher, fire blanket, eyewash station, and first aid kit. Clean upyour lab area at the conclusion of the laboratory period. No FOOD OR DRINK at the lab stations General Safety Rules

  5. Let burners and hotplates cool down before touching them. Test to see if they are cool enough by bringing the back of your hand close to them. Always point the top ends of test tubes that are being heated away from people. When heating a test tube, move it around slowly over the flame to distribute the heat evenly. Heating Safety

  6. ALKA – SELTZER LAB In this lab, you will be testing how long it takes alka-seltzer tablets to dissolve under 4 different conditions. Alkaseltzer + water  carbon dioxide + sodium citrate + water REACTANTS PRODUCTS
