  1. Open-Source Hardware and SoftwareMicro Controller Presented byPete DuMelle PD Design, Inc Brought to you by UniForum Chicago HTTP://PDDESIGNINC.COM

  2. Overview • What is Arduino • What flavors does it come in • Shields and add on hardware • Examples of projects

  3. What is an Arduino Arduino is an open-source electronics prototyping platform based on flexible, easy-to-use hardware and software. It's intended for artists, designers, hobbyists, and anyone interested in creating interactive objects or environments.

  4. Arduino Team • Massimo Banzi, David Cuartielles, Tom Igoe, Gianluca Martino, and David Mellis. • Nicholas Zambetti has contributed since the beginning.

  5. What is Open Hardware • Open-source hardware shares • Release all of the original design files (Eagle CAD) for the Arduino hardware. These files are licensed under a Creative • Commons Attribution Share-Alike license, which allows for both personal and commercial derivative works, as long as they credit Arduino and release their designs under the same license.

  6. More on Open Hardware • It works with • Parallax (Basic Stamp hardware) • List of Hardware and Code • http://www.arduino.cc/playground/Main/InterfacingWithHardware

  7. What is Open Software The Arduino software is also open-source. The source code for the Java environment is released under the GPL and the C/C++ microcontroller libraries are under the LGPL. The source code for Arduino is now hosted on GitHub.

  8. Arduino Flavors Mega 2560 $60 LilyPad $20 Nano $26 Uno $30

  9. Arduino comparison Arduino Uno • Clock Speed: 16 MHz • Digital I/O Pins: 14 (of which 6 provide PWM output) • Analog Input Pins: 6 • Cost $30 Basic Stamp 2 • Clock Speed: 20 MHz • Number of I/O Pins: 16 + 2 dedicated serial • Cost $ 50

  10. Shields • Ethernet • Wifi • GPS • Data Logging • Cell • Video • Audio • Acelerometer • XBee • MP3 • RS232 • Smoke Detector • Voltage regulator

  11. Arduino Projects

  12. More Projects • Home Automation • Inter active clothing • Laser light show • Makerbot or CNC • Sensor that updates your twitter
