  5. Early Life • I was born on June 16, 1971 in Harlem, New York. • As a sophomore, I moved to Baltimore where I attended the Baltimore School for the Arts. I studied acting, poetry, jazz, and ballet.

  6. Early Life Cont. • I wrote a book entitled The Rose That Grew From Concrete. It was a collection of poems I wrote in high school. • In 1988, I moved to California. I attended Tamalpais High School.

  7. Yeah, there’s more! • My poetry teacher organized a concert for me to recite my poetry. A week later, I was signed with Alron Gregory, the creator of Digital Underground.

  13. My Career? My Dude!

  14. My Career Starts Here • The song that got me on the map was, “Same Song.” It was a song I performed with Digital Underground. • After, I received my own opportunity, and released my first album entitled “2pacolypse Now”

  15. Continued… • I formed the rap group, Thug Life and our album went gold! • I got tired of the group thing and went solo. “All Eyez on Me” was my first huge solo success.

  16. Shutup. • After “All Eyez on Me,” I became a huge deal. Everything I did after that was untouchable. • I’m known as one of the biggest influences in the rap game.

  17. Poet like Me?

  18. You probably don’t think I have anything in common with a poet. Let me introduce you to this cat Edgar Allan Poe.

  19. Family • Edgar Allan Poe’s father abandoned him when he was little. • My father also abandoned me!

  20. Trouble Maker • Edgar Allan Poe was an assistant editor for a magazine, but was fired for being drunk at work. • I was convicted of sexual assault and went to jail.

  21. Work Until Death • Edgar Allan Poe tried to produce a journal entitled “The Penn,” but it wasn’t published before his death. • I was just finishing up my last album, but was killed before it’s release.

  22. Fortune Tellers? • In one of my songs, I predicted my own death. Many of my songs have messages related to how I died, as well as when I will come back.

  23. Stick with this, it gets weird. • In one of Edgar’s poems, he tells a tale of a ship lost at sea. When times get desperate, the crew drew straws to see who they would eat. In the poem, Richard Parker drew the short straw. Seriously read this…

  24. Ahhhhhhhhhhh! • 46 years later, a boat was lost at sea. The crew once again drew straws on who was going to be eaten. A man by the name of Richard Parker drew the short straw. This was not a poem.

  25. Looks like I’m closer to a poet than people think!

  31. WRONG! GO BACK

  32. Good Job • My first album after my death was entitled, “Machiavelli: The 7 Day Theory.” • Machiavelli was a famous philosopher who believed faking your own death was a was to fool your enemies.

  33. Coincidences? • In “2pac’s Greatest,” Tupac’s greatest hits CD, I released six new songs. Sure, I could have recorded them previously, but I make references to the movie Armageddon, and congratulate the Broncos on winning the Super Bowl. • Both happened after I died…

  34. Hmmm • I’ve released seven albums since my “death.” • I referenced the World Trade Centers being attacked, and have talked about other new world things. • In fact, I always wore a bullet proof vest. Why not that day?

  35. Obviously, I’m still alive!

  36. My Poetry = My Art

  37. There are a lot of poetic devices I use in my raps. Let me show you.

  38. Personification Definition – a description of an object as being a living thing. Example – “My fake friends say they love me, but I know they lie. The Darkness sees they full of homicide.” • “Thug Style” The darkness’ ability to see is personification.

  39. Internal Rhyme Definition – rhyming that occurs within the line. Example – “I’m a homicidal outlaw. Five-O get your lights on, fight long.” - “The Heartz of Men” - On and long are internal rhymes.

  40. Similie Definition – Comparison of two unlike things using like or as. Example – As even as a crack fiend, you always a black queen. • “Dear Mama”

  41. Onomatopoeia Definition – a word that imitates the sound it represents. Example – And the five-O, blaow, blaow. - “16 on Death Row” - BlaowBlaow represents police sirens.
