  2. A few reminders Remind your children to carefully observe the customs of their host families, and tell them to ask whenever they have a question. Spaniards tend to be more mindful of water and electrical usage than most Americans. Most Spaniards are very well informed about American politics and many aspects of American popular culture. Your children may have an interesting time explaining that what appears in American movies and on TV may not be representative of their own families and lifestyles. By the same token, not all Spaniards are bull fighters or flamenco dancers.

  4. and a few more… In general, the use of stereotypes, physical attributes, skin color, race, religion, etc. are not stigmatized. Language - no equivalent to George Carlin’s 7 dirty words Visual Arts – nudity TV and print media can be much more graphic than in the U.S.

  9. Just remember, remind your child… to be open to trying new foods. to be as flexible as possible when presented with different ways of doing things. to be as patient as possible when linguistic or cultural misunderstandings happen.
