  10. SBGR STANDARDS BASED GRADING AND REPORTING SO…HOW DOES IT WORK? “Practice vs The Game” Formative vs Summative Introduction of standard (skills, knowledge, and dispositions) • Opportunities for Practice • Scholar initiates reassessment process • Scholar completes requirements established by teacher (additional teacher instruction, continued practice, individual or group tutoring sessions, additional reading/practice problems) Scholars with mastery moves on Feedback provided and score goes in the grade book Scholar did not demonstrate mastery Feedback provided and score goes in the grade book Opportunity to practice and gain mastery For example: in-class activities, homework, formative assessments – quiz New learning happens Scholar is provided feedback to clarify misunderstandings (cycle continues until summative assessment) Summative assessment of standards (the game) Scholar is formally assessed on standard(s) – no more than 2-3 standards assessed at a time. Reassessment Opportunity Up to two reassessment attempts

SBGR Guidelines: Assessing Standards • 2018-2019 • Pilot • * Camelot • * Twin Lakes • * Lakota • * FWHS Research from Stiggins states, “…for the sake of assessment for student academic well being standards on an assessment must be prioritized and realistic in number given resources available to teach and learn them.”(Stiggins, 2017) Stiggins, R. (2017). The Perfect Assessment system. Alexandria Virginia, ASCD.

  12. SBGR Guidelines: Assessing Standards • 2018-2019 • Pilot • * Camelot • * Twin Lakes • * Lakota • * FWHS Guidelines for Assessing Standards Unpack the assessment and rubrics to identify the standards that scholars need to know and be able to do Understand how lessons sequence the standards to inform when they will be assessed When there are more than 5 standards in a lesson sequence, identify 2 – 3 standards to focus on for each assessment Reassessments require re-teaching support, no more than two reassessments, and only replacing with a higher score and not averaging both attempts Stiggins, R. (2017). The Perfect Assessment system. Alexandria Virginia, ASCD.
