Background Young Ambassadors is funded by the National Lottery and is a key element of sportscotland’s contribution to developing young people as leaders in sport.Each year, two pupils from each secondary school in Scotland are selected as Young Ambassadors.YAs will be assigned a mentor to support you in your role. The mentor at the school will be [Insert name and job role].

  3. Developing young people as leaders in sport Young Ambassadors views, and those of other young people are heard, valued and influence decision making; and that they are engaged in driving change.

  4. Want to be part of the next generation of young leaders promoting sport in your local school, community and across Scotland?

Role • To promote sport, and motivate and inspire other young people to get involved in sport in a wide range of settings within their local communities, including schools, club and community organisations. • To influence six key aspects of school sport: • extra-curricular sport provision • links to community sport opportunities • opportunities for competition • celebration of pupil achievements in sport • leadership opportunities for young people • PE in schools

Have you got what it takes? • Ability to influence and inspire other young people. • Ability to raise the profile of sport in your school and/or community. • Excellent communication skills with other young people and adults. • Ability to show initiative and take responsibility. • Ability to portray a positive image and be a good role model to young people. • Organised, with good time management skills.

Young Ambassadors 2018 • 642 new Young Ambassadors and 329 mentors from across Scotland • 4 international athletes attended the conferences • James Heatly(Commonwealth Games diving medallist) • Kieron Achara(Scotland and GB basketballer) • Marc Austin (Commonwealth Game triathlon medallist) • Sarah Law (Scotland women’s rugby player)
