  1. Dear Parents: • Student behavior highly impacts the learning environment in the classroom. We use positive reinforcement and constructive feedback to support students as they learn responsible behaviors. • Students will learn most of the procedures and expectations of our classroom and school communities over the first few weeks. We will read books and participate in activities and discussions which support and clarify the Jason Lee rules of Cooperation, positive Attitude, Respect, Effort, and Safety (CARES). More specifically: • Be cooperative. • Have a positive attitude. • Show respect. • Make your best effort. • Be safe. • Jason Lee staff uses a Refocus approach for minor classroom infractions. Students in classrooms generally go to one of the rooms in their wingor remain in the classroom to reflect on their behavior. Students complete a form that is designed to help acknowledge and think about his/her behavior. After a brief discussion with the teacher, the student returns to class. Please understand that this is not meant to be punitive but, instead, a method to help students learn to make better choices. • Our desire is to raise the responsibility of our students so they are in charge of the decisions they make in the classroom. We will talk about four levels of behavior shown in the chart below. • When students make unacceptable behavior choices they will be asked, “At what level was that behavior?” and be guided to self-evaluate and take responsibility for changing or correcting the behavior themselves. Our goal is for all students to strive for Level 4 behavior by becoming more aware of their choices and by planning their future behavior. Level 4 Principled Does good because it is the right thing to do. Level 3 Cooperative Does what is expected to receive a reward or recognition. Level 2 Bossed to Behave Needs to be bossed or told to behave. Level 1 Out of Control Noisy, unsafe and out of control. Please sign and return the bottom portion of this letter to show that you have received this information. I am looking forward to a fantastic year with your child. Sincerely, Sarah Holgate *************************************************************************************** Student: I have received and read the student behavior plan from Ms. Holgate’s class.
