Select object(s) to form crop boundary or NONE to pick rectangle: (Press ENTER to end selection.) Erase selected boundary? [Yes/No] <No>: Y (Choose Yes to erase all boundaries.)

  22. AEC Modify - Array • (Select the space, right-click and choose AEC Modify>Array.) • Select an edge to array from or ENTER to pick two points: (Select a point at p1.) • Drag out array elements or : p (Choose the down arrow and choose Pick array distance/Enter count.) • Specify new array distance <3'-0">: (Choose the endpoint at p2.) • Specify second point: (Choose the endpoint at p3.) • Drag out array elements or : (Move cursor right to array space.)

  23. Space Styles

  24. Design Rules • Design Rules • Net Offset • Useable Offset • Gross Offset • Target, Minimum and Maximum • Area of Space • Length • Width

  25. Grips of Non-Associative Space

  26. Inserting Zones • Choose Zone from the Design palette • After placing a zone you can attach other zones and spaces to the zone • Zone includes total area of all attached zones

  27. Adding a Zone Template • Zone Template • Links zone styles into a group

  28. Accessing Space Evaluation

  29. Space Evaluation • Choose Space Evaluation from the Scheduling palette • Area of floor, ceiling, and walls for each can be evaluated • Evaluation created in form of text or Excel files

  30. Creating a Freeform Space • View the building in plan view. All wall enclosing elements must be displayed in the workspace. • Choose Space Generate from the Design palette to open the Properties palette. • Edit Geometry Type to Freeform • Move the cursor to the workspace and left-click inside the building. Press ESC to end the command.

  31. Accessing Mass Elements

  32. Grips of Mass Elements

  33. Using the Drape to Model Contours Select Drape from the mass element shapes flyout of the Build panel. Select objects representing contours: (Select the contour lines using a crossing window, select p1.) Specify opposite corner: (Select a point at p2.) Select objects representing contours: Enter (Press enter to end the command.) Erase selected contours [Yes/No] <No>: Enter Generate regular mesh [Yes/No] <Yes>: Enter Select rectangular mesh corner: (Select a point near p3.) Select opposite mesh corner: (Select a point near p4.) Mesh subdivision along X direction <30>: Enter (Press enter to accept the default mesh size.) Mesh subdivision along Y direction <30>: Enter Enter base thickness<10'-0>: 6 [150] Enter (Type 6 [150] to specify the base thickness.) The topography has been extrapolated.

  34. Drape of Contours

  35. Editing Mass Elements • Trim by Plane-MassElementTrim • Split by Plane – MassElementDivide • Split Face – MassElementFaceDivide • Join Faces– MassElementFaceJoin

  36. Accessing Trim (MassElementTrim) Command prompt: MassElementTrim Select a mass element and choose Trim by Plane from the Modify panel The command (MassElementTrim) creates a trim plane that cuts across the element. You can then select which side of the trim plane to retain.

  37. Trimming a Mass Element • (Select a mass element and choose Trim by Plane from the Modify panel.) • Specify trim plane start point or [3points]: (Select p1 using endpoint object snap as shown below.) • Specify trim plane end point: (Select p2 using endpoint object snap as shown below.) • Select mass element side to remove: (Select p3 using endpoint object snap as shown below.)

  38. Accessing Split by Plane(MassElementDivide) • Select the mass element, right-click, and choose Split by Plane • The Split by Plane command (MassElementDivide) creates a cutting plane that cuts the mass element.

  39. Splitting Mass Elements • Select the mass element and choose Split by Plane from the Modify panel. • Specify divide plane start point or [3points]: (Select point p1.) • Specify divide plane end point: _mid of (Select point p2.)

  40. Accessing Split Face(MassElementFaceDivide) (Select the mass element and choose Split Face from the Modify panel.) Select first point on face: _mid of (Select point p1.) Select second point on the same face: _mid of (Select point p2.) Gable converted to Free Form. Select first point on face: ~EnterKey~ (Press the ~EnterKey~ to end the command.) Note: The face at p3 was stretched after the split.

  41. Creating Groups for Mass Elements • Complex models are created by defining a group and attaching elements to the group. • The Mass Group tool inserts a group marker, the group marker represents the group. • Mass elements are attached to the group after the group marker is established.

  42. Accessing the Mass Group Tool • Command prompt: MassGroupAdd • Select the Mass Group tool from the Massing tool palette

  43. Creating a Mass Group (Select Mass Group from the Massing palette.) Select elements to attach:(Select a mass element.) Location: (Select a location in the workspace.) Attaching elements... 1 element(s) attached

  44. Accessing Mass Group Attach Command Select any member of a mass group to display the mass group marker shown at right, right-click and choose Attach Elements. Respond to the workspace prompts to select additional mass elements.

  45. Creating Mass Groups from the Mass Group Tab

  46. Boolean Operations with Mass Elements Mass Elements that are attached to a group can be defined to add, subtract, or intersect their mass with the other elements. If a mass group exists in the drawing, the mass group and operation can be specified in the Properties palette when new elements are added. After a mass element becomes a member of a group all elements of the group and the group marker are displayed. To isolate and edit a mass element that belongs to a group select the Edit in Place grip. The Edit in Place toggle turns off the display of the group and allows you to edit mass elements.

  47. Boolean Operations • Union • Subtract • Intersect

  48. Edit In Place of Mass Group

  49. Creating Floor Plate Slices of Mass Elements • After you develop a mass model of a building, you can create a floor plan from the model • The Slice command (AecSliceCreate), located on the Massing tool palette, allows you to slice through the model at elevations equivalent to floor elevations. • The AecSliceToPline command, accessed from the shortcut menu of the slice, can convert the slice to a polyline. • The polyline can be converted to walls (right click a wall tool >Apply Tool Properties to>Linework).

  50. Accessing the Slice Command • Select Slice from the Massing tool palette
