Goals • The goal of the course is that the students, with emphasis on sections selected following their personal preferences, will know how • to distinguish between a scientific and non-scientific approach • to apply central scientific methods in their own research • to report "in the language of science" and also popularise information • to critically search for information from various sources • to take part in discussion in the "scientific community" • to share what they have learnt by teaching others • to do team work when necessary. • to become familiar with scientific debates. During course several duel debates and multi person debates are organised.

Key areas • general scientific criteria and methods • research objects and methods in astronomy • drawing up a research plan • searching for information • summarizing an astronomical book, article, lecture etc. • making one's own observations by instruments or by sensory methods • source criticism • popularisation of information • course project: either an experimental study or a study based on references
