Public engagement • Goal: Create a network of engaged government officials, civic and community leaders, business leaders, entrepreneurs, planners and private citizens that cuts across geographic racial, ethnic and income and programmatic boundaries. • Objectives: • Create effective communication tools. • Develop and maintain active committees of diverse stakeholders. • Effectively engage residents in determining outcomes and implementing recommendations.

PREFERRED SUSTAINABILITY STATUS • Opportunity to Win 2 Extra Points on Discretionary HUD Programs (other agencies to be added) • NY-CT Sustainable Communities Steering Committee Must Approve Based on Following Criteria: • Geographically located in NY-CT region covered by consortium • Furthers purpose of NY-CT regional planning program • Consistent with six livability principles of Sustainable Communities Partnership • Commitment to participate in the regional NY-CT Sustainable Communities program • Application Instructions on www.SustainableNYCT.org • Steering Committee will Make Determination Within 10 Business Days of Application

  18. 2011 project milestones • February 15, 2011: Cooperative Agreement in Effect • April 14, 2011: Workplan Submitted to HUD • April 15, 2011: Kick-off at Waldorf-Astoria • June 30, 2011: Memorandum of Agreement Signed • July 15, 2011: First Steering Committee Meeting • Summer 2011: Sub-grantee contracts and RFPs, complete outreach strategy, begin research tasks • Fall 2011: Initial local and regional advisory committee meetings
