  1. Health and Wellness InternshipSUNY Oneonta Health Education Office Christina Valenti Fall 2012

  2. Internship Overview • 120 Hours located both inside and outside the office of Health Education • Under the supervision of Rebecca Harrington, campus health educator • Worked on many activities for the Office of Health Education regarding various health issues.

  3. Freggies • October 2 in MyKitchen in Mills Dining Hall • Oneonta’s largest salad bar • Encouraged guests to make healthy salad topping choices and gave them advice on how to do so.

  4. Alcohol and Other Drugs • Went to AOD committee meetings twice a month. • Discussed ways to decrease the growing number of emergency alcohol transports of students. • Alcohol Awareness week was Oct 8-12, there was tabling in the quad with games set up to demonstrate how neurotransmitters in the brain work during addiction. • T-shirts were individually made in the office of Health Education, students got to choose what their high was to put on the shirt.

  5. Freshman 15 Presentation • October 9th in Tobey Hall • Put on a presentation with 2 other interns, providing information on how to avoid gaining weight in college.

  6. C.H.O.I.C.E.S • CHOICES (Choosing Healthier Options in the College Environment Successfully) meets every Friday at 3pm. • This semester we practiced a lot of meditation. • We also made goodie bags for Random Acts of Kindness Day in November and gave them out to people on campus, encouraging them to pay it forward. • Find the microbes.

  7. Hump Day Wagon • Every Wednesday throughout the semester • Out around campus, or inside the library when the weather was bad • Offers different items to help encourage safe sex practices • Students enjoy it.

  8. Nutrition Bingo • December 3 in Tobey Hall • Presentation on the 12 Healthy Days of Christmas • Gave students materials to play “Nutrition Bingo” throughout the week. • Will be continued next semester.
