  2. Iran’s Governing Style • Iran’s Government, believe it or not, is actually similar to America’s • Iran has a Democracy that consists of three branches. • Legislative • Executive • Judicial • They also elect most of their government officials.

  3. Governing Style Continued… • The Iranian government has a President but also has a Supreme Leader who can override anything the President does and even dismiss the president and dismiss any legislation of any law. • Just like our government the President is elected by the citizens. • The Supreme Leader is chosen by the Assembly of Religious Experts whom are elected by the citizens.

  4. Iran’s Population • Iran (according to cia.gov) currently has about 66.429 million people in their country. • The median age in Iran is 27 years.

  5. Iran’s Religion • 98%- Muslim (89% Shia, 9% Sunni), • 2%- other (Zoroastrian, Jewish, Christian, Baha’i)

  6. Iran’s Languages • 58% Persian/Persian Dialects • 26% Turkic/Turkic Dialects • 9% Kurdish • 2% Luri • 1% Balochi • 1% Arabic • 1% Turkish • 2% Other

  7. Iran’s Military • Branches: • Islamic Republic of Iran Regular Forces (Artesh) • Ground Forces, Air Force, Navy • Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps • Ground Forces, Navy, Air Force, Qods Forces (Special Operations) • Law Enforcement Forces

  8. Military Continued. . . • Able to join Basij Forces at 15 years of age. • Need to be 19 years for Compulsory military service. • 16 years for Volunteers • 17 to join Law Enforcement Forces
