  2. Separating a Dry Mixture • Today we will make a dry mixture of gravel, powder, and salt. • Watch as I make my mixture.

  3. Separating a Dry Mixture • Your challenge is to design a method to separate this mixture of three solid materials so that the gravel ends up in a G cup, the powder in a P cup, and the salt in an S cup.

  4. Let’s read the instructions together. Turn to the “Separating a Dry Mixture” page in your folder.

  5. Getters: • Grab your group’s bin. • Go to the table and make up a dry mixture • Label one of the “G” cups: Dry mixture • Put one 5ml spoon of each of the three dry materials in the cup: gravel, powder, and salt. • Stir the dry mixture

  6. Plan your experiment • With your group, decide how you will separate the mixture. Write down a detailed description in Part 2 of the “Separating a Dry Mixture” worksheet.
