  1. 7th Grade World Geography Name: _______________ ONLINE Textbook Instructions All seventh grade social studies students at Abington Junior High School will use the World Geography textbook. There is a class set of World Geography textbooks for student use in each of the 7th grade social studies classrooms. However, when students are not in their social studies classroom they will access the textbook ONLINE at the following website: http://my.hrw.com/ (please note there is NO “www” - just type my.hrw.com) If when you visit this website, your web browser notifies you that a pop-up box was blocked, please change settings to always allow pop-up windows from my.hrw.com In the “Username:” box enter the username your teacher provided you (this is either just your Student ID #, OR your Student ID # followed by ajhs). Example: 31234 or 31234ajhs In the “Password:” box please enter the password your teacher provided you. For most students the password is “geography” (all lowercase letters; do NOT include the quotes)

When you have successfully logged in you should see the screen below: The first time you logon (or if you ever have problem accessing anything on this website) please click the “Web Checker” link to make sure that you have the latest versions of required online plug-ins (such as Flash Player, Adobe Reader, Quicktime, etc.) installed. Once you click “Web Checker” the screen below should open (make sure pop-up blocker is disabled.) Any items that have a green check mark in the box at the end of the row are up-to-date and there is nothing further that needs to be done. Any items that have a RED “X” in the box at the end of the row are OUT-OF-DATE and need to be updated to the newest version. Please click on the link in the sentence where it says “Get the Latest Version”

  3. When you have successfully logged in you should see the screen below: When you are finished click the “Log Out” button in the upper right-hand corner. Click the “Go to the Online Textbook” link to access the World Geography book online which should take you to page shown below. 2.) Next, click the “Select a section” drop-down box to jump to a specific section of that unit or chapter in the textbook. 1.) Click the “Select a unit or chapter” drop-down box to jump to a specific part of the textbook. 3.) Finally, click “GO!” to jump that part of the textbook.

  4. If you know the exact page number in the book you’re looking for… 1.) Click on the “Book Pages” tab in the blue bar under the drop-down boxes. 2.) Type in the page number in the textbook that you want to jump to in the box that appears and click “Go!” Follow the directions below to access the ATLAS, the GLOSSARY, the INDEX, the GEOGRAPHY AND MAP SKILLS HANDBOOK, or any other section of the textbook that is found on pages starting with a LETTER(Example: the Atlas begins on page R31 in the textbook) 1.) Click on the “References” tab in the blue bar under the drop-down boxes. 2.) Once the “References” page loads, please click on the link to access the section of the textbook you are looking for. A .pdf file of that section of the textbook will open in a new window. (Make sure you have the pop-up blocker disabled and the latest free version of Adobe Reader installed on your computer.)
