  5. Our Goal is to Provide a Clear Overview of the Practicum Experience--Not have a Failure to Communicate.

What is Practicum? • Practicing to be an Administrator • You will use activities, events, and different forums to gain a variety of experiences in preparing you for the life of an administrator • Variety is the key element to having a successful Practicum • Administrative Practicum makes our students more marketable and better prepared for administrative work

  7. Program Overview: • Practicum: 100 hours total • EDUA 590: • Begins with the 2nd course and ends with the 4th course • 50 hours • EDUA 591: • Begins with the 5th course and ends with the 7th course • 50 hours

  8. Supervisors • Site Supervisor: • You will work with a credentialed administrator of your choosing at your school site. • Concordia Supervisor : • You will be assigned a Concordia Supervisor who will guide your experiences and be responsible for your grades.

  11. Supervisors • Actually a “badge”-an Administrative Credential- IS required for both the site supervisor and the practicum supervisor.

  12. Expectations of Practicum • Minimum of 3 meetings with your University Supervisor throughout EDUA 590 / 591 • Cohorts meet with their Admin. Supervisors for 1 hour after the Symposium (12:15 -1:15) • Keeping up with deadlines and Supervisor expectations • Minimum of 10 Reflections during Practicum • Practicum Experiences must have both quality and depth

  15. What are the Assignments? • Instead of just random guessing, let’s make it more clear.

  16. What are the Assignments? Pg 1 of 2 • General plan for your administrative experiences – agreed upon in a meeting with Site Supervisor, Concordia Supervisor and You. (This usually changes over time.) • Planning Document Narrative Reflection • Nine Reflections – on Activities and Symposiums

  17. What are the Assignments? Pg 2 of 2 • Two Signature Assignments and Reflections on Signature Assignments (this is included in the 10 total Reflections.) • Log of Hours • Mid Term Evaluation – end of #590 course • Final Evaluation – end of #591 course

  18. How will I be graded? • Level of depth and care on Reflection assignments • Variety of experiences • Meeting deadlines • Site Supervisor Evaluations • Concordia Supervisor assigned grade

  22. When will I have a grade? • All documentation must be uploaded to Blackboard before a grade may be assigned by your Supervisor • You will earn a grade for EDUA 590 • You will earn a grade for EDUA 591 • Grades are expected to be posted 48 hours after the end of a term.

How Practicum Grades Will Look • Each Practicum course spans 3 terms (courses) • The Registrar needs a place holder for an official grade at the end of each term • You must complete your entire Practicum course before an official grade may be entered • In the meantime, an IP will be seen in your records. (In Progress.)

Symposium • 3 4-hour Saturday sessions (8:00 am– 12:00) • Meet with Supervisors (12:15 – 1:15) • Each Symposium is 1-unit • Required assignments to be completed on Blackboard • approx. 15 hrs. of course work • First symposium for BLUE cohorts: OCT 26, 2013 Speaker: Malachi Pancoast (Breakthrough Coach) • Symposia contribute 12 hours towards your 100 hours!
