WFO Honolulu & CPHC • Status: • No local and operational storm surge forecast tool • Low frequency of storms that affect land area • Investigating SWIMS • SLOSH model has problems with near coastal bathymetry and reefs • Considerations: • Tropical Cyclone surge forecasts created every six hours during an active system • Area of responsibility includes NW Hawaiian Islands • AWIPS integration or PC/online • Onsite computing power? • Partner coordination & consistency www.weather.gov/cphc
