  2. What Does a 5th Grader Look Like? -Responsible for their own work and their own actions -A Hard Worker -Excited and eager to learn new things -A Member of the Family -Respectful of ALL -Willing to make mistakes and learn from them

  3. Things to Look Forward to… • 5th Grade Skate Days • 5th Grade Day • 5th Grade Awards Day • Washington DC Field Trip – November 12th- 15th • Roper Mountain Field Trips • Roper Mountain Growth and Development trip • A well-organized, but FUN, preparation for middle school… 

  4. COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS • Every Tuesday you will receive the take home folder, please return it by Thursday • The website is updated every Friday for the following week. If you have internet access please use this to get your newsletter and to stay on top of what is going on at school. Ask your child how to get to the class site • Student led conferences will be held in October to discuss your child’s progress • Please contact me if you have any concerns or questions: kedodd@greenville.k12.sc.us

  9. OUR CODE OF COOPERATION We will set a good example for others. We will be kind to others.We will respect ourselves. We will participate in all classroom discussions, activities, and lessons in order to better ourselves academically.We will treat others the way we want to be treated.We will encourage each other to do the right things.We will demonstrate a positive attitude- always willing to try new things.

  10. RIT GROUPS • Students were placed in their RIT group based on their MAP scores from this fall in Math. • Students will meet from 8:15 – 8:45 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Students will be in a mixed group of their peers who are all on the same level in that particular math strand. • Students may receive a SMALL amount of homework from their RIT teacher, but will not receive a grade.

  11. BEHAVIORRespectful, Responsible, Ready to Learn STAYING ON TRACK Students will follow the school wide behavior plan. In addition, I have implemented a positive behavior system in our classroom.

  12. STAYING ON TRACK • PINK • WHITE • GREEN • YELLOW • ORANGE • RED • BLUE + 2 tickets and good note home + 1 ticket Ready to Learn 3 laps at recess Silent lunch and 6 laps at recess Silent lunch, 6 laps, call parents Immediate referral to office

  13. TABLE GROUPS This year our class will work together as a community of learners. Students will work together in table groups! Groups can earn points for good behavior, staying on task, displaying positive attitudes, and demonstrating respect. At the end of each week, the winning table will select a privilege to enjoy the following week.

  14. Marble Jar In order to work together as a team, our class has the opportunity to earn incentives for good behavior, positive attitudes, quick transitions, showing respect, and staying on task. Each day the class can earn up to 3 marbles. Once we reach 90 marbles we will decide on a celebration as a class.

  15. HOMEWORK • Homework is assigned nightly Monday through Thursday • Students who don’t complete homework must walk the track at recess • Homework is assigned for review and practice • Homework is checked in class • Students should study nightly as a part of their homework • Students always have homework – studying for tests, reviewing math facts, and reading

  16. SPELLING • Students are given a pre-test of 20 words on Monday. • Classwork/Homework each night comes from the “Fifth Grade Spelling Activities Contract.” Students will complete 3 activities per week. • Our goal is for students to apply the spelling words in their writing. • Students are tested on their words on Thursday. • For additional practice please go to the following site: www.spellingcity.com/kedodd

  17. Assignment Expectations • Students should display their best work on each assignment given in and out of class. • Students are expected to put their name and number on each assignment. • Grades will be recorded through an online system which you can access through the parent portal.

  18. Class Expectations Students are expected to enter the room ready to learn each day! Directions and special instructions are posted on the promethean board as students enter. Throughout the day students should willingly participate in all class activities and lessons.

  19. Morning Procedures -Enter the room quietly and find your seat! -Unpack your book bag gathering the needed materials for class. --Turn in assignments to your pocket. -Select your lunch choice. -Read the board for special instructions/ and/or materials needed. -Make sure your pencils are sharpened and you use the restroom. -Copy homework into agenda. -Work on morning assignment. -If you finish early, continue reading your independent reading book.

  20. SYLLABUS • You will find a completed list of classroom and assignment expectations posted. • Long-Range Academic Plan • Information regarding attendance and non-instructional routines are posted. • School-wide procedures and expectations.
