  2. 1 2 (Workforce Training and Career and Technical Education) The Office of Workforce Education is responsible for facilitating the use of state resources: To provide the citizens of Mississippi the skills needed to be more productive and have an improved quality of life. To provide business and industry with a highly trained and educated workforce. Community college workforce system mission
  3. Workforce, Career, and Technical Education is absolutely essential in addressing the critical need for skilled workers in the 21st century economy. A trained workforce is the key to attracting new industries to Mississippi, as well as to retaining and growing our existing industries. importance of workforce Education
  4. workforce training history 1979 - The state funded Industrial Training Program operated under the State Department of Education, Office of Vocational and Technical Education. 1994 - The State Legislature passed the Workforce Education Act.  This legislation established the Workforce Education Program that operated through the State Board for Community and Junior Colleges.
  5. Workforce Training history 1999 - The Legislature passed a workforce training consolidation bill, transferring the Industrial Training Program from the State Department of Education to the State Board for Community and Junior Colleges, now Mississippi Community College Board. 2004 - The Legislature established the MISSISSIPPI WORKFORCE ENHANCEMENT TRAINING (WET) FUND, to fund Workforce Training projects at the Community and Junior Colleges.
  6. workforce training history 2010 – The Legislature revised certain provisions of the Mississippi Employment Security Law to adjust the formula of the Workforce Enhancement Training contribution. It stabilized funding using economic factors and eliminated funding thresholds.
  7. .15 % of 1 % of the taxable wages (the first $14,000) are deducted for Workforce Education from the Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund (UI). Old Law 3 % of 1 % of the taxable wages (the first $7,000) are deducted for Workforce Education from the Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund (UI). Funds are collected by the Mississippi Department of Employment Security. Legislatively required to carry over $2 million each year. workforce enhancement funds (wet)

Average ROI is 4.5: That is, for every dollar of WET Fund investment there is a return of $3.50 Specifications: 60 Percent of those receiving training are expected to stay employed in Mississippi $1,300 net average wage increase 60 percent of income available for income and sales tax Of 60 percent expected to stay employed, they are expected to work an average of 20 addition years ROI is based on sales and income tax, for an approximate rate of 9 percent Annual estimated income and sales tax on net wage increase: $3,556,689 20 year estimated income and sales tax on net wage increase: $71,133,784 Return on WET Fund Investment

  15. Career readiness certificate CRC demonstrates to an employer a potential employee’s fit for a specific job. The CRC focuses on three targeted skills: Reading for Information - comprehending work-related reading materials, from memos and bulletins to policy manuals and governmental regulations. Applied Mathematics - applying mathematical reasoning to work-related problems. Locating Information - using information from such materials as diagrams, floor plans, tables, forms, graphs, and charts.
