  2. We Believe… “that no kid should be left on the sidelines and every child should have the opportunity to play sports”

  3. The KidSport Mission… The goal of KidSport is to help under resourced families overcome financial barriers so that all kids have the opportunity to participate in organized sport.

  4. KidSport Across the Nation… • Has a 20 year track record as a National organization • Is entrenched in all 10 provinces and 1 territory • Has established over 175 community chapters from coast to coast • More than 4000 local volunteers who ensure kids have access to sport in their community • A solid community network with sport clubs, public health, education, recreation, service and community groups: Boys & Girls Clubs, • YMCAs, etc.

  5. KidSport Across BC • 40 community chapters • Over $1.2 million in grants in 2012 to over 6200 kids • Key provincial partners include Province of BC, CTV, Hyundai, NHLPA

The Need… • 1 in 3 Families can’t afford the cost of organized sport (StatsCan) • Many are missing out on the physical, social, and mental benefits associated with sport participation • Sport and physical activity have become a luxury that is only affordable for a fraction of Canadian kids • Last year KidSport allocated $2,575 to 10 kids in the Chetwynd area

KidSport Grant Program Provides funding for families in need to help cover registration costs for a season of sport – sustainable sport experience Uses a confidential application process Has a proprietary review process Provides grants to Kids aged 18 and under Accessible to every family, with an identified need, across the country

Impact of KidSport Our Work Since 1993, KS has provided over half a million under resourced Canadian kids with the means to pursue their passion in sport In 2012, we assisted almost 70,000 kids who otherwise would not have had the opportunity to play KidSport registration and equipment grants totalled over $6M last year

  10. Impact of KidSport cont. • Top three sports funded through KidSport were: • Hockey, Soccer, & Gymnastics • 50 BC kids received full sets of hockey equipment via our partnership with NHLPA Goals and Dreams • Considered a critical component in the LTAD model and sport for life concept

Chetwynd Chapter Launch September 2013 Fundraising Goal • $10,000 in the upcoming year • Charity of Choice for Community Events • Sponsorship • Donation Buckets • Signature Fundraiser Awareness Campaign • Social Media - Facebook Page KidSport Chetwynd Chapter • Community Events - Free family events that emphasis active living

How the District of Chetwynd can help KidSport. • Assign a council representative as liaison to ensure communication is active. • Like our Facebook page and share with your networks. • Attend community events & fundraisers in support of KidSport as schedules allow. • Share ideas for awareness campaigns, partnerships and Charity of Choice events. • Volunteer your time or donate directly.
