  3. Evidence The Race for Greediness A main reason for the savagery and the downfall of Africa was imperialism. Africa is a big continent, but because other countries rudely assigned themselves rulers of regions in Africa; Africa no longer would be the same. It was so called “The Race for Africa” when leading countries that were strong in economic power and independent were in need of more territory. There were three main reasons which were the following nationalism-trade and competition, missionary spirit-spread of Christianity, and economic competition-for natural resources. Many regions in Africa became very dependent on the colonizing countries. This was because of dependent cash-crop systems the colonizers brought to Africa the African people were only taught to do one thing, which was farming. When these colonizing countries were done with the valuable goods in the area, they would lose interest on that area and the African people were lost they had no idea how to live another way. France was a country that was colonizing a region in Africa; this region is known as Ivory Coast, which was colonized because France wanted to recover from their economic issues with trade.
