  1. My Heart is Steadfast Psalm 108

  2. With a Steadfast Heart (1-5) • From Psalm 57:7-11 a psalm early in David’s life when he was fleeing from king Saul. He maintains his faithfulness • By way of reminder, revisiting as subject – cf. Phil. 3:1, 2 Pet. 3:1-2

  3. With a Steadfast Heart (1-5) • My heart is steadfast • “fixed” (KJV, ASV). With firm resolve! • We need steadfastness – 1 Cor. 15:58, Heb. 3:14, cf. Eph. 4:14 • Never give up, even in the difficult times!

  4. With a Steadfast Heart (1-5) • I will sing and give praise, even with my gloryGod is worthy of our praise! Even with our very being! • Awake, lute and harp – David used instruments in his worship. We have NO authority for such! Cf. Eph. 5:19

  5. With a Steadfast Heart (1-5) • I will praise You, O Lord, among the peoples….sing praises among the nations • Not something he kept to himself

  6. With a Steadfast Heart (1-5) • Your mercy is great among the heavens, and Your glory above all the earthA mercy greater than we can give. • Your truth reaches above the clouds Is there a greater standard? Isa 55:9, John 8:32

  7. With a Steadfast Heart (1-5) • Be exalted O God, above the heavens,And Your glory above all the earth!

  8. Deliver me (6-13) • From Psalm 60:5-12 a psalm after David’s is king. Exact time unknown, but Israel had experiences some sort of military setback. Still David trusts in God that He will deliver them

  9. Deliver me (6-13) • That Your beloved may be delivered, save with Your right hand and hear meDo we cast our cares upon Him 1 Peter 5:7 • Or do we turn to man (as Israel often did)? Man, who disappoints • Do we pray for His beloved today? (His church)

  10. Deliver me (6-13) • God has spoken in His holinessThe Lord now speaks, “I will rejoice, I will divide Shechem…” promising deliverance for Israel • The places mentioned are portions of Israel on both sides of the Jordan. The text points to their deliverance.

  11. Deliver me (6-13) • Moab is My washpot; Over Edom I will cast My shoe, Over Philistia I will triumph. • Just as the Lord can deliver His people, He can overcome His (and their) enemies.

  12. Deliver me (6-13) • Who will bring me into the strong city? Who will lead me to Edom? • Within Edom is Petra, a fortified city. But even such is no match for God! David knows this!

  13. Deliver me (6-13) • Is it not You, O God, who cast us off? And You, O God, who did not go out with our armies? • David acknowledges that the same God that brought their distress (possibly punishment) also is the ONLY one who can deliver them.

  14. Deliver me (6-13) • Give us help from trouble, for the help of man is useless. • There is folly in trusting man. • There are times that ONLY God can help us! Romans 8:31, Hebrews 13:6

  15. Deliver me (6-13) • Through God we will do valiantly, for it is He who shall tread down our enemies • Since He is able to deliver, do we trust Him? • Do we with courage believe and live this? (1 Cor. 16:13)For example: Withdrawing from a sinning brother!

  16. Is your heart steadfast in His sight?
