According to the Social Security Administration, a “disability” means the inability to participate in gainful activities due to a medically diagnosed physical or mental impairment that will last for at least twelve months or result in death. Medical evidence must show physiological, anatomical, or psychological condition(s) documented by clinical, laboratory and electro-diagnostic diagnostic testing.

  4. Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are different federal programs that provide wage replacement benefits for injured and ill workers. Social Security Disability Benefits are funded by Social Security taxes taken out of each paycheck when you work.
