  2. Does Gilpin still have a School Boundary? Yes. To determine if you live in the Gilpin Boundary, please visit the following web site and enter your address. http://schoolfinder.dpsk12.org/

  3. If I live in the Gilpin Boundary, will my child be assigned to Gilpin? • Yes. Students who live in the Gilpin Boundary will be assigned to Gilpin. • Students who live in the Gilpin Boundary and DON’T want to attend Gilpin must complete a School Choice Application. • A School Choice Application can be obtained at any school or through this link (click here). • A School Choice Application must be submitted directly to the school of your choice.

  4. Does Gilpin have a new Montessori Program? • Yes. For the 2008-09 school year, Gilpin will ONLY offer a Montessori Program for 3-year olds, 4-year olds, and 5-year olds. • For the 2008-09 school year, students who are ONLY in grades 1-8 will be enrolled in a traditional academic program. • Beginning with the 2009-10 school year, Gilpin will begin to transition from its traditional academic program to its Montessori Program.

  5. What exactly is a Montessori Program? A Montessori Program uses “hands-on” materials that allow children to develop a concrete foundation of knowledge about the world around them.

  6. What exactly is a Montessori Program (cont’d)? A Montessori Program provides students with opportunities to: • Take an active role in their education; • Develop positive work habits; • Gain respect for self and others; and • Learn that freedom comes with responsibility.

  7. What must I do to enroll my child in the Montessori Program? • If you have a 3-year old, 4-year old, or 5-year old student, you must complete a Montessori Program Application. • A Montessori Program Application can be obtained at Gilpin ECE-8 School. • Questions about the Montessori Program should be directed to Marcellina Otii at (720) 424-7162 or at marcellina_otii@dpsk12.org.

  8. If I don’t live in the Gilpin Boundary, can I enroll my child in the Montessori Program? Yes. Any student can apply to the Montessori Program. Students who live in the Cole, Columbine, Garden Place, Greenlee, Harrington, or Whittier boundaries will receive an enrollment priority after students living in the Gilpin Boundary are accommodated. To determine if you live in one of these boundaries, please visit the following web site and enter your address. http://schoolfinder.dpsk12.org/

  9. Do I have to pay tuition to enroll my child in the Montessori Program? • Yes. If you have a 3-year old, 4-year old, or 5-year old student, you must pay tuition to enroll your child in the Montessori Program. • Depending on income eligibility requirements, tuition may range from $40 per month to $610 per month. • Specific questions about tuition payments should be directed to Marcellina Otii at (720) 424-7162 or at marcellina_otii@dpsk12.org.

  10. Will my child be able to ride a bus to school? Transportation WILL be provided if: • Your child is in grades K-5; • Lives in the Gilpin Boundary; AND • Lives more than 1 mile from Gilpin. OR • Your child is in grades 6-8; • Lives in the Gilpin Boundary; AND • Lives more than 2.5 miles from Gilpin.

  11. If I don’t live in the Gilpin Boundary, can my child ride a bus to school? No. Unfortunately, students who don’t live in the Gilpin Boundary WILL NOT receive transportation.
