Membership in a premier organization known nationwide Looks great on resumes and law school/grad school applications Leadership opportunities- elections will be held each semester Access to the journal Sociological Inquiry Option to compete in paper competitions for cash prizes and publication in Sociological Inquiry Group volunteer opportunities Speakers

  3. OK, REALLY Why Join AKD? You can attend and play a large role in coordinating fun events to meet fellow sociology students – because how are you going to get to know each other in these lecture halls? Opportunity to apply for financial assistance to go to conferences and symposiums with other undergrads and graduate students We’re looking to organize speakers and events that YOU want to participate in, members have a big say in what happens Fun (and delicious) end-of-the year banquet, in addition to food at other events Seminars on the GRE, LSAT, and other grad school-related concerns

Requirements to Join AKD • 3.0 cumulative GPA • Majoring in Sociology or Law and Society • Junior or Senior standing (Freshman and Sophomores can attend meetings and participate in most events, don’t have to pay) • $40 membership fee (1 time fee) – this is the required AKD rate, but we do our best to have it come back to you in pizza and events

Kaplan will be speaking about the GRE and grad school Admissions Other possible speakers: Pat Jones Miami Correctional Staff Judge Johnson Jan Cortner If there is anyone specific you would like to hear speak or just a topic in general you are interested in, let us know and we will try to make it happen!

  6. What else do we have planned? • AKD social event – get to know each other and have fun! • Awards ceremony • Volunteering/fund raising • Possible trip to tour Miami Correctional Prison

  7. ATTENDENCE…Making it worth your while! In order to vote in elections or hold office, you must attend at least two AKD meetings a semester. If you attend three AKD meetings throughout the semester, you will receive part of your individual dues back or have your banquet cost waived.

  8. AKD is getting a fresh start this year and we really want to make it about you and where your guys’ interests fall. Don’t be afraid to speak up. Let us know what your interested in and we’ll try to make it happen

  9. Freshman and Sophomores • Freshman and Sophomores are welcome to join as “prospective members”, attend most events, build relationships with fellow AKD members, and learn more about careers and ideas in the field of Sociology.
