  2. The basics: • Location: • Lower and central America, Africa, and Southeast Asia • It is located between the tropic of Capricorn and the tropic of Cancer • Borders the savannah and temperate forest biomes. • The rainforest is home to over 50 percent of the worlds animals.

  3. Plants: Have large leaves for maximum sunlight absorption Shed water so branches do not break: Oily coating Drip tips Grooved leaves Some plants’ leaves turn with the movement of the sun

  4. Plants Lianas Vine • It starts off as a small shrub that grows on the forest floor, and as it grows, it attaches itself to smaller saplings and strangles it as it ages.

  5. Common Plants: • Bengal Bamboo (Southeast Asia) • Bougainvillea (South America) • Coconut Tree • Rafflesia

  6. Rafflesia The Rafflesia Flower: • Largest in the world • Many species are endangered. • Has no stems or roots • Can only be found in Southeast Asia • Has a foul odor.

  7. Animals: Adaptations: Diets that are fruit oriented Camouflage and slowness help the sloth evade predators. • Bright colors • Loud vocalizations • Birds beaks are different depending on what they eat.

  9. Abiotic Factors : Water, sunlight, temperature, climate and weather, and precipitation all affect the life of the plants and animals in the rainforest.

  12. Gear: • Waterproof boots and jacket • Umbrella • Iodine (Purify water) • Insect repellant • Sunscreen • First-aid kit Weather Report : Rainfall : 250-450 cm a year. (8-14 feet) Temperature : 68-93 degrees with 77-88 percent humidity

  13. Threats to the Rainforest • Global warming • Poor farming practices (subsistence agriculture, slash and burn) • Poaching • resource exploitation.
