  1. Case #2321 Dr. Doodles Donley

  2. The Investigators • Brandon Meyer- expert in crime scene investigation • Gabe Keeler- Forensics expert • Kelly Stanton- DNA expert

  3. Dr. Doodles Donley has been found dead at the scene, murdered on Friday, February 9, 2007. There are 4 vials missing from her level 4 containment room, which had very dangerous viral and bacterial pathogens contained in it. Potential suspects include Dr. Doodles Donley's colleagues that work in the school with her, and attended Donley's Valentine's Day party earlier on the night of her murder. All of the suspects will be interviewed and DNA tests will be performed in order to justify a culprit in the case. The perpetraitor will be dealt with most strictly. Dr. Doodles Donley was one of the best Biology teachers and lead the world in viral and bacterial pathogen research. It is a huge loss, and it seems as though her research will be lost forever, as she worked alone, afraid to give her work to anyone else, knowing what happened with Watson and Crick, and even Charles Darwin. Let's get to work to bring justice to the society of science... The Case

  4. The Evidence • Blood at party scene and on insurance policy was 0+. • Blood with the victim was O+ and B+.. • Fingerprint on goggles: Dr. Kelvin High • DNA fingerprint results: Austin Powers • Lip prints on 3 glasses matched, Dr. Donley, Dr. Sandro Music and Dr. Lazarus Dangerkitty • Dog hair found on Dr. Donley's lab coat

  5. Were you friends with Dr. Donley? What was your relationship like? “The relationship was strained. There was a lot of tension. We had a lot of tension over grant money, because she always gets the grants because of her work with viral and bacterial pathogens.” Where were you the night that the 4 vials were stolen and Dr. Donley was murdered? “I was in my lab doing some research. I stopped by at Donley's party for a little, but left before it ended. I saw Austin Powers at the party, but i left before he did. I don't really know the guy very well. Do you have access to cyanide? “We all have access to cyanide.” Do you have a dog? “Yes, I have a labrador.” Why was your blood at the scene? “I cut my hand on a wine glass at the party.” Why was your lip prints on the glasses in Donley's lab room? “I was drinking some wine at the party. The party was lame, all my colleagues are jerks. The Evidence- Interview of Dr. Lazarus Dangerkitty

  6. Are you friends with Dr. Donley? What is your relationship to Dr. Donley? “Im in love with Dr. Donley, but she seems to hate me and I hate how she doesn't notice me. It makes me upset. Where were you the night of Donley's murder? “ I was at a movie. I was not invited to the party. I peaked in the windows to see who was there and Austin Powers was talking to Dr. Donley. It made me jealous of course. I don't know Austin Powers personally, but I am afraid of him, because he seems to have a lot of power. Do you have access to cyanide? “No, I study physics.” Do you have a dog? “Yes, a beagle.” Why were your fingerprints on the goggles in Dr. Donley's lab? “I like Sheetburger and Tollhouse.” The Evidence- Interview of Dr. Kelvin High

  7. Are you friends with Dr. Donley? What is your relationship with her? “I teach in the same place as her. I am indifferent with Dr. donley.” Do you have access to cyanide? “I do not have access to cyanide.” Do you have a dog? “Yes.” Why was your blood found at the scene? “There are a lot of people with O and B blood. It must be the other guy.” Why does your DNA match the DNA found at the scene? “No comment.” What do you think of Lazarus Dangerkitty? “I think he is a moron.” The Evidence- Interview of Austin Powers

  8. What is your relationship to Dr. Donley? “I work with her, but she is very reluctant to give any research on viral and bacterial pathogens.” Where were you the night of her murder? “I was in the lab, trying to catch up to her in research.” Do you have a dog? “No.” What do you think of Kelvin High's fascination with Dr. Donley? “He's a good friend, and I try to tell him that she is out of his league, but he doesn't listen.” Do you have access to cyanide? “Yes.” The Evidence- Interview of Dr. Sloopy Stretch

  9. It was a Friday night and Dr. Donley was planning a big party to celebrate her Nobel Peace Prize for her work viral and bacterial pathogens. All of Donley's science colleagues and friends were invited to attend except Kelvin High. The Story

  10. Kelvin High was very distraught over the fact that he was not invited. Besides the fact that High is madly in love with Dr. Donley, he felt like he had the right to be at the party. To blow off some steam Dr. High decided to see a flick by the name of Little Miss Sunshine with his lady friend Ginger Ale. The Story

  11. Dr. High was running a little early to pick up Ginger Ale in his purple minivan so he decided to show up unexpectedly at Dr. Donleys house. He showed up dressed in all black but he didn't have the courage to show his face in her house. Unfortunately for him, the guests at the pre party noticed a strange looking character peeping in the windows intently. The Story

  12. The peeping Tom outside otherwise known as Kelvin High, noticed a very masculine man unlike himself courting Dr. Donley in the Champagne room. This made High very uneasy and jealous because he did not know this man who looked of high stature. The Story

  13. Dr. High waited around until Austin Powers came outside to go to Dr. Donley's party at her laboratory. He confronted Dr. Powers when he stepped outside and they began talking. The Story

  14. “Pssst, hey you with the face, come over here,” whispered High to Powers. “Who are you and what do you want from me?!” asked Powers. The two began to talk about Dr. High's plan to murder Donley. He explained that all he needed was a hit-man and that Powers was the perfect man for the job. The Story

  15. At first Power's was a bit apprehensive, but as High explained the benefits of stealing Dr. Donley's work once she was “out of the way,” he became very interested in the offer. Dr. High shared his evil plot of how to end Dr. Donley's life. The Story

  16. Both men agreed upon a deal. High scurried away into the night while Dr. Donley and Powers drove to the lab for the party. Little did Donley know that her life was in danger. The Story

  17. Once at the party, Powers needed to find an accomplice for the murder. He noticed Dr. Lazarus Dangerkitty alone in a corner, sippin' on some syrup. Powers subtly approached Dangerkitty and the two began conversing about Dr. Donley's achievements. Dangerkitty then expressed his deep hatred for Donley and how he secretly wished to steal some of her research in order to get grant money. The Story

  18. Clearly, Dangerkitty was the perfect accomplice. Powers began explaining his plot to murder Dr. Donley himself but that he needed an untraceable way to kill her. Dangerkitty's eyes lit up as he described the use of cyanide to eliminate Donley. He then agreed to give Powers some from his lab to take care of Donley, in exchange for some vials from her lab once she was dead. The Story

  19. The two men then returned to the party where they began eating watermelon and playing Monopoly to take their minds off things. The party was raging and people started to get naked. Dr. Sloopy Stretch and Dr. Row Boat had a few too many and began arguing over the theory of evolution outside the house. It started because Row Boat decided to call Sloopy a monkey. Things were out of hand and police were knocking on Donley's lab by 9:45PM. The Story

  20. During all the chaos of the party, Dangerkitty slipped Powers the cyanide for Donley's drink. When Donley was talking to the cops, he quickly added the poison to her green tea. Then, he slipped out the back door, unnoticed. Donley was quite thirsty after dealing with the police and pounded down her drink. Unfortunately, this would be the end of her life. The Story

  21. Five minutes later, Donley was dead. It was not until the next morning when Sloopy Stretch came to relive some of the night's action with Donley that she was found to be dead. Stretch knew there was only one person to call, The Soggy Mullets Detective Agency. The Story

  22. The ELISA Lab is a enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. It relies on anti-boides to detect the presence of antigens in liquid samples. Mammales produce anti-bodies for a single antigen and anti-bodies bind to antigens. In order to recognize these antigens and the anti-bodies associated with a specific antigen, tests with animals can be conducted in order to recognize the antigen. Controls are always needed in an ELISA test for it to be proven positive for a specific antigen or negative. In our test for the pathogen of small pox the following results were made: +++ --- +++ --- + - A B The + is a tube with smallpox, a positive result. The – is a tube without smallpox, a negative result. The A is a positive result and is from the blood on the insurance policy. The B is a negative result and is from all of the other suspects. It is proven that the suspect is infected with smallpox. ELISA Lab

  23. DNA Replication • In the first step, the double helix is unwound by a helicase. Next, a molecule of DNA polymerase III binds to one strand of the DNA. It moves along the strand, using it as a template for assembling a leading strand of nucleotides and reforming a double helix. A DNA polymerase I molecule is used to bind to the other template strand as the double helix opens. This molecule must synthesizediscontinuous segments of polynucleotides known as Okazaki fragments. Another enzyme, DNA ligase, then stitches these together into the lagging strand. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DNA_replication

  24. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) • Polymerase chain reaction is a technology used to increase the amount of DNA by adding a primer to DNA in a test tube that makes it replicate and grow exponentially without using a living organism. It can be performed without restrictions on the form of DNA and can be modified to perform a wide array of genetic manipulations. An enzyme can be used to cut the DNA at specific sites of DNA where specific STR repeats are present specific to the enzyme.

  25. Electrophoresis • Electrophoresis is a technology that will separate DNA according to the size of the piece of DNA that was cut by the enzymes. Since DNA has a slight charge, electricity can be used to move these pieces apart according to size. The bigger pieces of DNA will not move as far as the small pieces of DNA and DNA samples of the same STR repeats of differentsuspects and the crime scence can be compared by location and size.

  26. DNA Test Results • Our DNA test results concluded that suspect #3 matched the DNA found at the scene from the blood found. Suspect #3 is Austin Powers, and gives good evidence in our case against him.

  27. Who is guilty? • The Soggy Mullet investigators conclude that Austin Powers, Dr. Kelvin High, and Lazarus Dangerkitty are all guilty for the murder of Dr. Doodles Donley. Austin Powers is guilty because of the DNA evidence and the known plot against Dr. Donley. Kelvin High is charged with the murder for hiring Austin Powers as a hit man. Lazarus Dangerkitty is guilty because of his access to cyanide and because of his blood found at the scene, and the known plot given to us by the confession of Dr. High. Austin Powers also had smallpox, proven by an ELISA blood test that was positive.
