  2. Overview All courses address the new demands of the Common Core Curriculum Ready for the rigors of college in terms of critical reading, essay writing and public speaking Extra help offered on a regular basis

  3. 9th Grade FRESHMAN  Goals to Develop Basic Skills: • Analyze, critique and discuss varied types of literature • Develop vocabulary and thereby written and oral expression • Write academic and creative papers including a research paper

  4. 10th Grade SOPHOMORES • Build upon basic skills and draw a connection between the literature read and the world around us • Work with Interdisciplinary collaboration

  5. 11th Grade Juniors • Develop effective responses through persuasive prose and analyze the literary elements of literature AP Language and Composition • Scrutinize college-level prose for the author’s rhetorical devices and strive to emulate those strategies in their writing

  6. 12th Grade SENIORS • Challenging students with college-level reading through the study of contemporary literature. • Sharpening writing skills using a variety of rhetorical devices. AP Literature and Composition • Synthesize primary and secondary materials in order to effectively analyze and critically respond to great works of literature

  7. Electives SAT preparation .5 credit courses for Sophomores and Juniors The BayhawkBulletin - Students write, edit, and design the bi-monthly publication. The Yearbook - Students write, edit, learn graphic design and photography techniques, and manage deadlines.

  8. Creative Writing Creative Writing for Seniors Students: Gain skills in creative expression and develop the ability to identify the successful elements of a piece of creative writing. Discover their own writing process from rough draft to polished piece. Learn to read critically as a writer and share feedback with peers. Explore opportunities for publication and experience the submission process. Participate in a writing community.

  9. Honors Program New for 2013, St. Dominic is offering to our junior and senior English students an opportunity to receive an honors designation on their transcripts.

  10. The Bookworms A place where you can travel to new places, and meet interesting characters without leaving the comfort of your home. Membership is open to all levels.
