  2. Mollusks • Mollusks are classified into three common groups based on shell presence, shell type, and foot type. Bivalves Gastropods Cephalopods

  3. Bivalves • Bivalves have a hinged two-part shell without a head or teeth. • Bivalves dig deep into the soil by using their muscular foot. • Mussels and oysters attach themselves with a strong thread to keep from floating away with the currents & waves

  4. Bivalves • Examples: Clam Oyster Scallop Mussels

  5. Gastropods 1. One shelled. 2. Some have a muscular foot that secrets a layer of mucus for sliding along. 3. They use a Radula(tongue like organ) to get their food. 4. Many have two tentacles with eyes at the tips.

  6. Gastropods • Examples: Snails Conchs Garden Slug(Exception No shell) Abalones Whelks

  7. Cephalopods • These are the most complex and specialized . • They have a well developed head and many tentacles for capturing prey. • They have a closed circulatory system. • They use jet propulsion to move rapidly.

  8. Cephalopods • Examples: Octopus Squid Cuttlefish Chambered Nautiluses
