  7. Enrollment Documents Students must have a copy of a birth certificate, social security card, school physical, and shot record to be enrolled in school. This is a law, and we are audited.

  22. What will my child learn?

  23. The School Day • School starts at 8:20 a.m. Drop students off at the gym entrance • School is dismissed at 3:20 p.m. Pick up in front of the cafeteria – for your child's safety, use the number card ( If your child rides a bus, please return the bus number tag each day.)

  24. If your child needs to get home a way that is different from his or her routine, you must send a note and call the office.

  25. Overview of Kindergarten Math • Hands on experiences with manipulatives • Counting to 100 by 1’s, 10’s, 5’s and 2 ’s • Recognizing numbers to 100 • Writing numbers to 100 • Reads number words zero - thirty • Money (naming coins and values) • Telling time (to the hour)

  26. Simple addition and subtraction • Measurement • Ordinal numbers through tenth • Reading charts and graphs • Calendar skills • Sorting and categorizing • Shapes including ellipse, hexagon, trapezoid, sphere, cone, cube, and cylinder • Identifying and extending patterns

  27. Overview of Kindergarten Reading Sing, Spell, Read, and Write: Songs, games, and workbooks that teach • Phonics - letter sounds • Recognizing letters • Rhyming • Writing letters • Blending sounds to read words • Reading color words

  28. Sight words- list sent home second nine weeks • Leveled readers • Writing sentences and stories • Retelling stories • Sequencing events in stories • Identifying the characters, setting, and events in stories • Predicting what will happen next in stories

  34. Folders • Will be sent home each day • Will contain schoolwork, homework, reports, and newsletters • Two important practice activities • Calendar in the back is a daily behavior record that you sign each day

  35. Report Cards • Report cards reflect skills that are required for Kindergarten • Mid term reports show student progress toward achieving these skills • Mastery of these skills is necessary for promotion to first grade • Conferences with parents

  36. Parent Teacher Conferences We will schedule conferences to discuss your child’s test results and adjustment to school.

  37. School Rules • Be ready • Be respectful • Be responsible

  38. Kindergarten Rules • Listen and follow directions • Complete work on time and do your best • Talk at appropriate times (raise hand) • Respect others (keep hands, feet, and objects to self) • Respect school and personal property • Keep a positive attitude

  39. Behavior in cafeteria, bathroom, library, music, gym, computer lab, and hallways • Homework completion • Safety habits for myself and others • Anything other than these will be dated and listed on this paper

  40. Money • Please send lunch money on the first day of the week in an envelope marked with the student’s name and what the money is for. • Mealpay Plus

  43. We need volunteers to help in the classrooms. Please discuss this with us at open house. Volunteers are needed for the following activities: • provide snacks • listen to students read • help with crafts and art activities • chaperone field trips • plan, serve, and clean up at parties • clean tables • file papers • any time you visit the school you must sign in at the office
