  1. World Meteorological OrganizationWorking together in weather, climate and water WMO SAON Activities: Coordination across networks and platform WMO perspective Potsdam, Germany, 1-2 Oct. 2012 Miroslav Ondráš, Chief, WMO Observing Systems Division (Nils Hettich (WMO) and Jérôme Lafeuille (WMO))

  2. WMO Integrated Global Observing System (WIGOS) WMO 2 2

  3. WMO Integrated Global Observing System (WIGOS) • Cg-XVI (May-June 2011) decided to implement WIGOS • WIGOS is about improving existing WMO observing systems to be interfaced with co-sponsored and non-WMO OSs; Functionalities to be improved are addressed in the WIGOS Implementations Plans (WIPs) • WIP = Plan for the development of practices & procedures to be documented in WMO Regulatory Material, such as TR (TCs) • R-WIP = Plan responding to WIP and Regional priorities (RAs) • N-WIP = Plan to implement improved functionalities based on practices described in the WMO Regulatory Material (Members) • CBS & CIMO guide technical aspects of WIGOS implementation (IPs), including the design and evolution of global observing systems (EGOS-IP) and development of standards (Siting classification jointly with ISO)

  4. WMO Integrated Global Observing System (WIGOS) • Four Component observing systems: • Global Observing System (GOS) • Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW) • World Hydrological Observing Cycle (WHyCOS) • Global Cryosphere Watch (GCW) • Interface with: GCOS, GOOS, GTOS, … • Support to GFCS, GIPPS, …
