  2. The Purpose of Recommendations • Achieve change • Define the actions that need to be taken • Provide a framework for dialogue

  3. Recommendations can: • Influence policy and legislation • Mobilize communities • Change organizational practices • Foster coalitions and networks • Promote education and training to strengthen knowledge and skills

  4. Share Your findings and written recommendations should be shared in an Annual Report with the appropriate agencies or individuals that are best positioned to take action

  5. Local • Local teams should share their Annual Report with local agencies for local action

  6. Possible Recipients • The media • Community leaders • State agencies • State organizations • Civic organizations • Prominent community decision makers • Others ?

  7. Appropriate Forums • Formal presentations • Formal letters to agencies • Public service announcements • Radio, television, newspaper, newsletters

  8. Leadership A good leadership team: • Fosters accountability by maintaining follow-through on the status of each recommendation • Uses every opportunity to educate and involve others concerning the recommendations and the need for their implementation

  9. In Conclusion • Value the recommendation process • Make your recommendations a priority • Keep track of what you recommend • Be realistic • Celebrate the small successes as well as the major ones
