Our Mission Statement The mission of Columba College is to provide an education of the highest quality at all levels of the School, to encourage and help students to reach their full potential and to nurture their spiritual, emotional, intellectual, social and physical development and well-being.

9. Curriculum Breadth and Depth Year 9 Students take a core programme of:  English 4 periods a week  Mathematics 4 periods a week  Science 4 periods a week  Social Studies 3 periods a week  Religious Studies 1 period a week  Physical Education and Swimming 2 periods a week

10. In addition, each student chooses three option subjects from the current list. Option subjects are studied for a full year.  Art  Chinese (Mandarin)  Economics  French  German  Music 9 periods a week (3 periods for each option subjects) Total: 31 periods in the week Note: Digital Technology becomes an options becomes an option subject in Year 10

All students also study Units or Modules which comprise:  Humanities Drama Global Citizenship Health Music Each of these four Units is studied for two periods a week for a term  Technology Digital Technology Materials Technology Robotics Technology Digital Technology is studied by all students for two periods a week for half a year. Students choose to study Materials Technology or Robotics Technology for two periods a week for half a year.

12. Year 13 All students also study Units or Modules which comprise: Careers; Health and Life Skills; Physical Education; Religious Studies. *Digital Technology (Software Design and Development) is a separate course offered by Columba College through DunedinNet. The NCEA Level 3 Digital Technology course (Programming and Digital Media) is taught at Columba College. 17. Scholarship Grades * Highest number of Scholarship Grades in Otago. In 2009 and 2010, second highest. In 2011 equal highest. o In 2010 there were 53 girls in Year 13 (a smaller number than usual). Proportionally, the percentage of Scholarship grades on a “head-count” basis for 2010 was very pleasing.

Private tuition in Speech and Drama (Trinity College and New Zealand Speech Board Examinations) and in Music (for example, cello, clarinet, flute, guitar, piano, saxophone, singing, viola and violin) is available on the school campus with the College’s own Private Tutors.
