  1. God On Display In Our Holiness Part II Ebenezer Baptist Church 9.29.19

  2. Holiness displayed • In Our Conduct (5:1-21) • In Our Relationships (5:22-6:9) • In Our Battle Readiness(6:10-20)

  3. Display of Holiness predicated on: • Honesty (Psa. 139:23-24, 51:6, 32:1-5) • Leads to personal responsibility (Psa. 51)

  4. Humility • Put off, put on…(I Peter 5:5-6; Eph. 4:22,24) • “At every stage of our Christian development and in every sphere of our Christian discipleship, pride is the greatest enemy and humility our greatest friend”

  5. Him • His holiness dominates (Ex. 3:5; 34:29-35) • His holiness reveals our sinfulness (Jn. 4:16-18; Isa. 6) • His holiness drives us to our knees (Rev. 1:17; Joshua 5:13-15)

  6. Holiness displayed in Our Conduct (5:1-21) • Walk (in love)-in daily conduct (a present imperative=continuous and habitual) (vs.2)

  7. Love-“It is love which is commanded in believers, empowered by His Spirit, activated by personal choice of one's will, is not based on one's feelings toward the object of one's love and is manifested by specific actions.” (I Cor. 13:4-8)

  8. Impels us to sacrifice for the benefit of the object loved. • Not sentimental or emotional, but an act of the will. • The love that God has for humanity, as demonstrated by Christ. (Jer. 31:3; Rom. 5:8; I Jn. 4:10)

  9. A sweet smelling sacrifice(genuine love that displays a heart of holiness) II Cor. 2:14-16 GOD LOVE OTHERS LOVE

  10. Walk in purity(vs. 4-7) Run from impurity! • But-a conjunction that changes the air from a sweet aroma to a nasty stench. • But-a conjunction that moves us from self-sacrificing love to self-serving conduct and sensuality.

  11. Porneia as used in the Scriptures describes any illicit sexual activity outside of the divine bounds established by marriage and thus includes the ideas of unlawful sexual intercourse, unchastity and fornication.

  12. Porneia includes (but is not limited to) pornography, adultery, premarital sex, homosexuality, bestiality, incest, and prostitution. • Problematic even in the church (I Cor. 15:1-2) • RUN…FLEE FROM IT (I Cor. 6:18-20; II Tim. 2:22)

  13. “Don't dabble with porneia ("pornography"), trifle with it (there is no such thing as "soft porn" - it is a lie!), argue about it, debate it, explain it and certainly don't try to rationalize it as a "spiritual challenge" to be met but as a "spiritual trap" to be escaped.

  14. Get away as fast as you can! God gives such a clear and strong command becauseporneia is so serious, so seductive, so corrupting and so shattering to spiritual relationships, both human and divine! So flee for your life.”

  15. Joseph the hero who ran (Gen. 39:1-12) • The right perspective • The right persistence • The right ploy • Solomon who clearly knew this truth but sadly did not practice it (at least in I Kings 11) Prov. 6:20-7:27

  16. Walk in light(

  17. Walk in thanksgiving(
