  2. Where is the country located?

  3. Who are the participants • Between Stalin and his army and the Ukrainians.

  4. What reasons were given for the genocide? • It was engineered by Stalin and his hangmen to teach Ukraine’s independent farmers “a lesson they would not forget” for resisting collectivization, which meant giving up their land and livestock to the state.

  5. What methods were used to kill the victims? • Starvation • Many turned to cannibilism.

  6. How many were killed? • 7 million were killed. • 25,000 were killed per day.

  7. When did it occur? • 1932-1933

  8. How does it fit in with the definition of genocide? • This fits in with the definition because it was a group of people getting killed off to crush their free spirit so they wouldn’t rebel.

  9. How did the international community react? • In Europe, America and Canada, persons of Ukrainian descent and others responded to news reports of the famine by sending in food supplies. In November 1933, the United States, under its new president, Franklin D. Roosevelt, even chose to formally recognized Stalin's Communist government and also negotiated a sweeping new trade agreement

  10. Was anything done to try and stop it? • Soviet union refused the food and wouldn’t let the Ukrainians stop it. • Nobody really helped.
