  2. History of Bridges Thousands of years ago Russians crossed a land bridge into the new world of what in now North America, coming into the land of what is now Alaska. The “Land Bridge” connecting Alaska and Russia was a glacier that came up out of the ocean.

  3. History of Bridges On April 5th, 1998, after 10 years of construction, Japan cuts a ribbon opening the worlds largest bridge, The Akashi Kaikyo Bridge(also know as the Pearl Bridge). The bridge has a record span of 1,991 meters and cost about 500 billion yen($3.6 billion).

  4. History of Bridges 43 A.D. the Romans needed to build a bridge to get across the Thames River. On two hills, the Romans built the London Bridge. In 61 A.D. The London Bridge was burned down and rebuilt a few years later.

  5. History of Bridges In 1890, the Walnut Street Bridge, connecting down town Chattanooga to the Nort Shore, was built that had a 2,376 foot span. In 1973 the bridge closed down, and nearly a decade later it was re-open as a pedestrian walkway.
