  1. Competition Presentation General Body Meeting January 11th, 2006

  2. What is Competition • Annually PBL members compete by state at a central location against all of the other chapters in their respective state.

  3. How do you compete? Registered PBL members, depending on which division the member signs up for, competes either by form of a written test or by a presentation (interview or with visual aids). There are individual events as well as group events up to 4 people.

  4. Examples of Individual Divisions • Accounting for Professionals • Business Law • C++ Programming • Future Business Teacher • Financial Concepts • Multimedia Presentation • Statistical Analysis • Word Processing

  5. Public Speaking • Business Decision Making • Impromptu Speaking • Job Interview • Public Speaking

  6. Examples of Group Divisions • American Enterprise Project • Community Service Project • Partnership with Business Project • Parliamentary Procedure • Emerging Business Issues • Business Plan

  7. Question • (Computer Concepts) Today____, no longer is widely used because it does not offer a graphical user interface (GUI) and it cannot take full advantage of modern 32-bit personal computer processors. A. DOS B. MAC OS C. Windows 98 D. OS/2 Warp

  8. Where and When • This year, the 2005-2006 PBL State Competition will be held at the PBL State Leadership Conference at the Lancaster Host Resort in Lancaster, PA. This event will be held on April 21st- 23rd (weekend). We will leave 7AM on the 21st and return about 1PM on the 23rd.

Benefits of Competing • Personal Achievement (resume builder) • Represent Drexel PBL in its inaugural year • Meet members from many schools including Temple, Shippensburg, Bloomsburg, Villanova, and more… • Test your knowledge of business, interviewing, and technology against the rest of the state

  10. Benefits cntd’ • Chance to gain recognition at the National Competition in Nashville depending on how you place as a competitor (and division pending) • Cool speakers and great food (buffet, refined and catered) • Scholarship Opportunity • Good times and great fun overall!!!!

Where to start • First, decide on where your interests lie, particularly by your major first time around, (consult a PBL officer) • Second, research at the library and pick up some books on the basics of your division • Utilize some of your old textbooks (if applicable) • We will be having review sessions with faculty hopefully in March to better go over your particular division

  12. Costs of Competing • Meals for Friday and Sunday will be on you the member, Saturday will be supplied by Phi Beta Lambda • Registration $55/pp • Transportation $20-$25/pp • Lodging $22.50 pp

Reality • Despite some of the costs, there is lots of opportunity to be had to learn and have a more rewarding experience • This will be the most prominent and most fulfilling event that we do • If I can get 40 or more registered members to pay, there is a possibility to seek additional funding (I need a sense of unconditional commitment)
