  2. What is the Household Insurance Survey Designed to Measure? • Health care coverage of Alaskans in different parts of the state and in different job situations • Differences in health care coverage related to region, type of work and demographic characteristics.

  3. Survey Instrument • Developed from the CPS (US Current Population Survey) and CSCS (Consolidated State Coverage Survey) • Goal to reach a household • Speak with most knowledgeable adult HH member about health care coverage of each member of the household • More detailed questions are asked about one randomly drawn adult in the HH

  4. Methods • Random Digit Dial • Calls made from Health Survey Lab in Juneau • Randomly drawn telephone numbers from exchanges statewide provided by Marketing Systems Group • Stratified Sampling • Sample drawn using same 5 regions as the BRFSS survey • Oversample rural region

  5. BRFSS Regions Region 1 – Anchorage & Vicinity (Blue) Region 2 – Gulf Coast (Yellow) Region 3 – Southeast (Pink) Region 4 – Rural (Red) Region 5 – Fairbanks & Vicinity (Green)

  6. Plan/Timeline • 6 months of data collection • Plan – April 2006 – September 2006 • Actual – May 2006 – December 2006 • Goal to collect 1250 surveys total • 250 from each region • We are on track with this goal

Comparison with BRFSS • Same sampling methods • Same regions • BRFSS • Goal to reach a HH and survey one randomly selected adult • One question on heath care coverage • Some state added questions on child health insurance coverage • HH Insurance Survey • Goal to reach a HH and get coverage information on all HH members • Detailed questions asked about one randomly selectedadult HH member
