  1. 11 August 2014: After placing your annotated directions and Alternative Reading Material (ARM) on your desk (they will be checked today), obtain your laptop from the cart, login, and go to Edmodo. We will be writing our first response today in small groups. Today’s Agenda: • Homework Check (Annotated Directions for Edmodo) • Writing a Post: How to Do It and Do It Well! HMWK: • Meet in the Media Center TOMORROW! • Review the first chapter of Of Mice and Men in preparation for Wednesday!

  2. 12 August 2014: No in class work today as we will be in the Media Center for orientation. Make sure you are preparing outside of class for Wednesday’s discussion on chapter one of Of Mice and Men. Today’s Agenda: • Media Center Orientation HMWK: • Review the first chapter of Of Mice and Men in preparation for Wednesday!

  3. 13 August 2014: Acquire the list of questions for “Chapter 1” of Of Mice and Men. Read the questions and annotate them. It is advised that you identify them by how easy they are for you to answer (Simple, Medium, Hard; Now, Later, Never). Today’s Agenda: • Questions on the first chapter of Of Mice and Men • MORE Response Writing on Edmodo HMWK: • Choose TWO of the questions presented in class and respond to them on Edmodo. DUE tomorrow (8/13/14) by class time!

  4. 14 August 2014: Take out your “Notes” notebook, put today’s date on the page, and label the page “Writing Great Responses”. Today we will be going over what you did last night and determining what you did well and how you could improve. Today’s Agenda: • Review Responses to Questions Discussed and Posted HMWK: • Revise posts on “Chapter 1” to improve your work based on in-class discussion and analysis

  5. 15 August 2014: Obtain your laptop, login, go to Edmodo, and read the “Top 3 Posts” from “Chapter 1”. Be ready to explain what makes these responses so amazing! Today’s Agenda: • Top 3 Posts • Over the Weekend: Preparing for Next Week’s Classes • Flexing Our ARMs HMWK: • Review the remaining chapters of Of Mice and Men; determine the basics of plot and character and hypothesize what Mr. Ingham will ask on Monday, 8/18/14

  6. What you’ve learned during week two of high school: • Simply knowing what happened in a book is not enough. One must look at the layers of meaning and seek deeper thoughts and messages. • Writing is not easy; in order to do it well, one must put in the time and thought to make it great! • Having others read your writing is difficult because it feels like a personal judgment, but if we are honest and trust each other, it is a necessary evil that can help us grow.
