A Proper Beginning • Can a building be built “from the top down?” • In Bible study, we start from the top and work backward, if we ever do. • Like we read a “mystery” novel, skip to the end to see “who done it”. • No foundation – To the Jew first and then… Why? • The foundation is the Old Testament. • 2 Timothy 3:15

  3. The Problem With “Religion” • With no foundation, we have no stability. We are “tossed to and fro with every wind of doctrine.” • What is the mission and purpose of God for man? • Recreation, education, social affairs? • A mean nothing, do nothing church. • Read with me – Micah 4:1-8. We’ll consider 10 points from this passage (quickly).

  4. Importance of God’s New Place • “Will be established as the chief…” • Daniel 2:35-44 • Mt Zion – God’s dwelling, but 3:12 says it will be “plowed”. • How important is the “church”, God’s new dwelling? I Cor. 6:19 • But, “the church isn’t important” in modern thinking. We need this foundation point.

  5. The “When” of the Establishment • “In the last days…” • Peter in Acts 2 quotes Joel, “This is that which was spoken of…” • “When the Bible says “This is That”, That’s That! • In the first century, around 30 AD. Not before, and not 1900 years later.

  6. The “Where” of the Establishment • “Even the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.” • Luke 24:47; Acts 1:4-8 • Not Elmyra, N. Y. or England, or Switzerland, or any other place.

  7. The Inhabitants of God’s Dwelling Place • “Many nations”. • The old dwelling place of God was nationalistic – Jerusalem of the Jews. • But Daniel said it would fill the earth. • Look at the “great commission” – Matt. 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-16

  8. The Function of God’s Dwelling Place • Evangelism – “From Zion will go forth the law…” • I Timothy 3:15 • A tremendous invitation – rooted in this Old Testament passage. • “Come let us go up to the mountain of God’s House…” • This isn’t an O. T. concept.

  9. God’s Intent For His People • Peace – “Swords into plow shares.” • Isaiah 11:9; Eph. 2:15-18 • By the blood of Jesus we have (1) Peace with God – by his stripes we are healed. (2) Peace of mind – that which passes understanding. (3) Peace with each other. • A church at war within is not this Zion. Where pride, stubbornness and ego rule are not God’s dwelling place – James 3:13ff.

  10. The Promise of God’s Dwelling Place • Prosperity – “Sit under his vine and fig tree.” • Israel was a land “flowing with milk and honey.” What a promise to people who had wondered in wilderness for 40 years. • For us – “every spiritual blessing” ( Eph. 1:3). • God gives us physical things, but that’s not our true wealth.

  11. The Foundation of God’s Dwelling Place • “Walk in the name of the Lord our God” – authority! • The world will always follow it’s gods. • We follow Jehovah by listening to his commands.

  12. The Duration • “Forever” • This isn’t a word that applies to human kingdoms. • Luke 1:32-33! • Not 1000 years.

  13. The Reign of Christ • “The Lord will reign forever” • Over all who respond to His Will. • Anyone – the lame, the outcasts – Jew and Gentile. • All have received the invitation – but we must respond. Heb. 2:9; 5:9,
