  1. Welcome to Little Flower Men’s Night February 6, 2016 Fr. Tom Landgraff, OSFS • Entered Oblates of St. Francis De Sales in 1953, ordained a priest in 1964 • Spent about half his priesthood teaching high school religion, biology and coaching baseball. • Earned degrees from Niagara University (BS in Science), Catholic University (MS in Biology), University of Toledo (Guidance and Counseling). • Served: Erie, Denver, Sandusky, Toledo • Associate Pastor-St. Mary’s, Sandusky (3 yrs) • Pastor-St. Pius X, Toledo (6 yrs) • Part-time Guidance Counselor at St. Francis De Sales High School, Toledo • Offers numerous parish missions for DeSales Resources and Ministries each year. • Currently: Retired, weekend presider at Little Flower Parish, Toledo • Loves baseball, golf, hiking, jazz and Broadway shows

  5. Male Spirituality • Content based on work by Gillette and Moore • We have God given resources, gifts, talents and sources of motivation, energy, and fulfillment • These resources exist in our subconscious

  6. Male Spirituality Content based on work by Gillette and Moore In the literature of many cultures, these words are used to describe these forces . . .

  7. King -- The force that helps us to be visionaries – to set goals – to plan • Who do I want to be? • What do I want to be?

  8. Warrior -- The force that moves us to action • Engaging others • Taking action

  9. Magician -- The force that enables us to know how things work Wisdom is an important part of the male character.

  10. Lover -- The force that enables us to show affection • Loving your wife • Loving your children

  11. Each one of these forces can be used for good or bad: The mature male is one who has these resources, these things, and has them in balance, and uses them for the good of their God, their family, their community, and all humankind.

  12. Some examples of Jesus using these forces: • King – The reign of God • Warrior - Carrying the cross • Magician – Explaining the parables • Lover – Welcoming the children

  13. For reflection . . . • In our society, which of these are dominant or lacking? • In our own life, which of these are dominant or lacking?
