  1. Ocean Energy and Hydropower By : Adam Rosbury

  2. Ocean Energy • Wave Energy • Tidal Energy • Thermal Energy

  3. Wave Energy • Tremendous amount of energy in waves • Up an down movements can move piston to turn generators • Waves can be used in coastal reservoirs for the change in air pressure to turn turbines

  4. Tidal Energy • Onshore reservoir are used to retain water at high tide and let out at low tide. • Tidal Movements spin turbines generating power

  5. Thermal Energy • Difference in deep and surface water used for water vapor production • Rising water vapor spins turbine

  6. Ocean Energy • Advantages • Renewable • Abundant • No fossil Fuel Emissions • Disadvantages • Technology not there yet (especially for deep water) • Cold water plumes (Thermal Energy) • Not easily accessible by the public

  7. Hydropower • Uses Energy of moving water • Similar to wave energy • Used in Dams, Rivers, along with other non marine moving waters

  8. How it Works

  9. Hydropower Advantages Renewable Abundant Low Emission Peak Hour backup Disadvantages Cannot Build Everywhere Impacts Ecosystems Expensive Capital Cost
