HMI VISIT 11.7.14 *Susan Wareing visited St Alban’s on Friday 7th July. It was a very positive visit, resulting in a report, which has been on the Ofsted website since 10th September. A copy of this report was sent to all parents and carers at the beginning of term. It was a fantastic report, acknowledging all the hard work undertaken by our school community.
HMI REPORT 11.7.14 *What did it say about ACHIEVEMENT? St Alban’s has “raised dramatically the achievement of most pupils and pupil groups across a range of measures, including in mathematics” “Most gaps in progress are narrowing for those pupils who are supported by the pupil premium. Some gaps have closed entirely.” “Interventions to improve pupils’ reading and writing have accelerated their progress markedly”
HMI REPORT 11.7.14 *What did it say about THE QUALITY OF TEACHING? “All teaching is at least good, with a significant proportion that is outstanding.” “Teachers give consistently helpful feedback to pupils on how they can improve their work and a real dialogue of learning is evident between pupils and their teachers.”
HMI REPORT 11.7.14 *What did it say about BEHAVIOUR AND SAFETY? “Behaviour, during the inspection, both in lessons and around the school, and in terms of pupils’ attitudes to learning, was exemplary.” Our pupils “find school a happy and safe place, where they enjoy their learning.”
HMI REPORT 11.7.14 *What did it say about LEADERSHIP? “Senior leaders share a very clear vision” “are enthusiastic and fully committed to the school’s improvement” and have a “very determined and systematic approach” The impact being that we have “successfully tackled all the areas for improvement” “Governors have strongly underpinned the school’s rapid journey through improvement.” They “have been highly effective in supporting and challenging the school in equal measure and in celebrating its successes”.
HMI REPORT 11.7.14 *What did it say about our SOCIAL, MORAL, SPIRITUAL AND CULTURAL ETHOS? “The pupils are highly articulate children with a strong sense of right and wrong, who can recognise kindness in their teachers and in each other. This is because they learn at school how to practise kindness to others from the school’s strong moral, social and spiritual ethos that permeates all its work.”
Dyslexia Kitemark Accreditation • We had our Dyslexia Kitemark Accreditation visit on 11th July. • We are very proud to have achieved the BDA Quality Mark for Dyslexia Friendly Schools.

Thank you! • All staff and governors are passionately committed to our school’s improvement. • Many have given “over and above”, volunteering hours and hours of their precious time to help our school. • We have a committed and much appreciated group of regular adult helpers in school, who have also given up much of their precious time by volunteering on school trips, with reading, number work and cooking. • The PTA (as always) continue to work tirelessly for school. • Thank you!
