Kangxi Emperor • Emperor of Manchu (Qing) Dynasty (r. 1661-1722) and second to rule over all of China. • Considered one of the greatest Chinese Emperors in history. • His 61 year reign makes him the longest-reigning emperor of China in history, although having risen to the throne at age seven, he did not exercise much control until later (China ruled by regents until then—namely, his guardians and grandmother, the Dowager Empress, Xiao Zhuang.

Qianlong, the Warrior EmperorFifth emperor of Manchu (Qing) Dynasty and Fourth Qing Emperor to rule over China. • “Official” rule spanned from October 18, 1735 to February 9, 1796, at which point he retired in favor of his son, the Jiaqing Emperor. This move represented a filial act in order not to reign longer than his grandfather, the illustrious Kangxi Emperor. Despite his retirement, Qianlong retained ultimate authority until his death on February 7, 1799.
